The Anchor, Bexley was the first venture for the newly formed Blackrose pub company, this would be the venue to put their new pub company on the map.
Turning this the once very tired pub into a stylish and cosy local was a challenge for our design team. The venture was the first for the newly formed Blackrose pub company, this would be the venue to put their new pub company on the map. The client’s ambition was to create a destination that was aesthetically pleasing and oozed charm.
Both the time scales and the budget were limited so the Fusion team were challenged to take a pragmatic approach to this project. Retaining and redecorating the bar front in a vibrant ochre shade along with the installation of new over bar units dramatically changes the first impression of the pub. A new bar apron featuring distinctive black and white tiles enhance the drama of the new bar counter.
Creating a venue that offered different guest experiences was a key element of the brief. The pub looked to cater for diners and drinkers as well as groups and so by designing and using screens along with differing floor materials we were able to create very separate zones. The dining area with its simple timber floor and inset tile feature is flexible enough to allow differing table arrangements. This leads to the bar lounge space directly in front of the bar counter with its feature herringbone and mid height seating this is a zone for more informal drinks with friends. This in turn contrasts the comfortable and relaxed snug space with its large chesterfield sofa, warm brickwork and over sized feature rug.
Reuse and recycle was key to ensuring the project would stand up commercially. This meant that the existing furniture was in part retained and refurbished. Supplemented by other reclaimed pieces and finished with new bold upholstery in distinct patterns, the overall effect is transformational, providing a new lease of life to the venue.
